JJ Hahn 1928 Barossa Shiraz 2002

JJ Hahn 1928 Barossa Shiraz 2002, WA92. Already a ‘museum’ wine and a regular auction item, this wine is rare, big and bold with lots of big dark berry fruit flavor, this wonder from Barossa Valley made by the famed maker Rolf Binder also exudes impressions of leather and sweet wood. Distinct pepper, spice, cherry and leather flavors, with smooth, supple texture. Rightly put by Wine Enthusiast, it may lacks just a bit of energy and vigor by now; there's plenty of round, dry fruit, matched by hints of pepper, grilled meat, coffee and vanilla. Over 2 hours of savouring, JJ Hahn 1928 Barossa Shiraz 2002 has ben consistently round, dark, rich, powerful wines with great aging potential (as long as 50 years). In the last 30 minutes, it turns to great expression of terroir as much as fruit.

2002 is a cool vintage for Barossa (score 9/10 in Layton’s). 2002 has resulted in elegant Rhône-style wines rather than 2001’s blockbusters.
